An interview with our Summer Intern, Grace LaPaille:

What are three things you learned from your internship?

‍

I learned about the PR industry as a whole, what goes into event planning from start to finish, and how to work with clients in a professional manner.

What drew you to Glen Echo Group?

‍

Well, I needed a summer internship and my dad suggested to look at Glen Echo. What really drew me in was my phone interview with Aaron and Courtney. They talked about the company and th type of atmosphere (laid-back, desks were open, etc.) which I really loved.

‍

‍

What advice would you give to future interns?

‍

If you have a question, don’t be afraid to ask. EVERYONE is super helpful.

‍

‍

What advice would you give yourself on your first day, knowing what you know now?

‍

I was a little nervous the first day since this was my first real internship. The advice I would give myself is there is nothing to worry about at all.

‍

‍

What was one of your favorite tasks? What did you like about it?

‍

One of my favorite tasks was working the TechFreedom pre-party and event. I thought it was really cool to see everyone’s hard work come together to make a great event. I learned a lot about how much preparation goes into planning an event in order to make it successful.

‍

Which skills did you have that were the most helpful during your internship?

‍

I think my time management skills came in handy. If Aaron needed something right away I was able to get it to him quickly. I also learned what tasks took priority over one another and was able to organize myself well to get everything done on time.

‍

What were your first impressions on your first day? How did those impressions change?

‍

My first impression on the first day was that you guys seemed like a very relaxed, cool company that did a lot of good work, so my impressions did not change!

‍

How did this internship relate to your school work?

‍

Since I’m in the School of Business at the University of Dayton, this internship related a lot to my school work. In the Business School you learn about every part of business, from advertising, professionalism, management, and so much more. At Glen Echo, I was able to see so many different sides of the business world. For example, I was able to see the operation’s side of business, communication, dealing with press, etc. Since you guys are a small company, I was able to interact with everyone, learn their job roles, and see what each person does for the company to make it a successful business.

How does this internship fit into your current or future goals?

‍

A future goal I have since I'm graduating in a year is obviously to find a job I love and that I'm good at. At Glen Echo, I learned what type of company I like working for, as well as different skills I bring to the table, which will help me a lot in my job search.
