The Intern Interviews: Dominique
Back To News
As Dominique Jeanpierre, a Public Relations major and rising senior at Howard University, wrapped up her internship with us, she sat down with us to answer some questions about her experience and to give some advice to future Glen Echo Group interns.
What drew you to Glen Echo Group?
I became interested in the Glen Echo Group through the Howard University internship opportunities site. I knew I wanted an experience and environment that was completely different from my previous internship. I also wanted a small working space that was interactive and could possibly break me out of my introvert shell.
I saw all of the clients that Glen Echo Group represented, and knew immediately that Glen Echo Group was not only going to fulfill my goal to explore a different area of PR than I had before, but would also allow me to get a real experience within tech and public policy through their relationships with so many key industry players.
I also loved the fact it was a small startup that established itself in the back of a Starbucks; which happens to be my go to place for a quick wake up! Ironically, on my first day I noticed that it was right next to a Starbucks, I knew instantly that the Glen Echo Group was the right place for me to learn, to grow, and to thrive beyond my expectations.
In addition to being an intern with us, you’re the CEO of your own company, LaniQue Dollhouse! What is that, and what drove you to start your own company?
I started LaniQue Dollhouse because of my love for false lashes. In high school, I remember waking up every day an hour earlier than usual just to do my makeup and wear false lashes!
However, now that it’s been two years since I started my company, I’ve learned more about myself, business, marketing and public relations and believe that has also greatly affected how I see my company. Now, it’s more than just lashes; it’s a dollhouse, I say.
What drove me to start LaniQue Dollhouse two years ago is now just step one to establishing my own cosmetic and self-care empire and legacy.
What have you learned here that you will use at LaniQue Dollhouse?
The most important lesson I learned from the Glen Echo Group that I will implement in my company LaniQue Dollhouse is the importance of teamwork. Glen Echo Group has superior teamwork skills and I truly appreciate that because everyone is able to work together, suggest ideas, and execute successfully.
When I started my company it was just me and my mother. However, moving forward I do plan to cultivate a strong team that can hit every aspect and point of marketing my company and representing my company with respect and hard work.
What is your favorite thing about the Glen Echo Group?
My utmost favorite thing about is the excitement about lunch—and the line “lunch train, anyone?”
I believe that this and consistent great energy is a big part of what kept me happy at the Glen Echo Group. I don’t think any other company will be as enthusiastic about going out for lunch as a group, or in general!
How has your internship changed the way you think about your life in the Washington, D.C. area?
Interning here has made me consider staying in Washington, D.C. after graduation next year! I learned to use the metrorail and really consume the D.C. life, and to appreciate how much it resembles my hometown, New York City.
What advice would you give to future interns?
My biggest advice to future interns is to take full advantage of the experience—absorb all of the great advice and lessons that Glen Echo Group can provide!
What advice would you give to future interns from Howard University, specifically?
To Howard University students interested in interning with Glen Echo Group: this team has so many personalities and different backgrounds. Remain open to learning from everyone! There is a bigger world and a bigger picture outside of HU stomping grounds.
