1. GEG staff growth in the last 12 months!

We’re pleased to cheer on the successes of our own team in their growth! Anne Keeney, Davey McKissick and Brad Williamson were promoted to Vice President. Wren Dillingham and Andrea O’Neal were promoted to Senior Director, and Lama Mohammed and Katelin Murray were promoted to Senior Associate.

Also flagging some earlier exciting news: Lauren Gaydos joined the Glen Echo Group as a Director. She previously served as Public Relations Manager at NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association.

2. ALA Banned Books Week

‍

The American Library Association has the reach to impact the minds and hearts of our nation’s youngest members of society — and future emerging leaders. That’s why we were so honored to support their Banned Books week and presented “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas, one of the most banned and challenged books of 2021, as our annual recommended reading book selection.

‍

“The Hate U Give” is a powerful young adult novel that grapples with topics including police brutality, systemic racism and interracial dating. “Free speech and intellectual freedom are issues close to the Glen Echo Group’s heart,” writes Dani Leopold, GEG Director. “We recognize the incredible need for the accessibility of diverse thought and experiences on bookshelves, and we are proud to stand with ALA in their efforts.”

3. Glen Echo Gives

#DidYouKnow that Glen Echo makes annual donations to staff-selected charities? It’s part of our commitment to bettering the tech community and working to move the world forward as a force for good. This year, Phil Sgro, Director, nominated GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and Alex Edwards, Associate, nominated the Georgetown University Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

“People often talk about LGBTQ representation but we sometimes forget that means putting in the work to realize this representation and reinforce the importance of lived equality for members of the LGBTQ community,” said Phil.

‍

Alex Edwards, Associate, had been interning at the Glen Echo Group for 10 months when he was diagnosed with brain cancer in February. “At the Georgetown University Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center Division of Pediatric Oncology, I found a community that was just as welcoming and kind as Glen Echo had been,” he said. We’re delighted to help the Lombardi Center in its work supporting other young patients like Alex!
