Glen Echo Group and Bowie State University (BSU) are excited to announce a new partnership centered around fostering professional connections and career development for students in BSU’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter, which sits within the university’s Communications Department.
As Maryland’s oldest Historically Black College and University (HBCU), BSU’s communications and public relations programming and faculty are powerful endorsements of the students who graduate from this historic institution. Glen Echo Group, a Washington, D.C.-based women-led public affairs firm centered on the day’s most pressing technology policy challenges, is honored to support BSU students’ further exposure to the communications field.
“We are proud to partner with BSU and its PRSSA chapter on this new initiative,” said Maura Corbett, chief executive officer, Glen Echo Group. “One of Glen Echo Group’s core values is ‘be heard’, and it is an honor to be a part of this initiative to encourage more diverse voices in this industry through real world experiences.”
This exciting partnership was founded around like-minded goals to elevate BSU PRSSA student access to informative, integrative, and high-quality industry experiences, knowledge, and relationships, and through close collaboration with BSU Communications Department Professor and PRSSA Chapter Advisor, Dr. Rochelle R. Daniel, who is also a recently published co-author on HBCU students navigating communications internships.
“We very much appreciate the Glen Echo Group for supporting our students in their career development,” said Dr. Otis Thomas, chair of the university’s Department of Communications. “Partnerships with industry organizations such as Glen Echo help us to create opportunities for our communications students that give them access to professionals who will mentor them, and experience that will prepare them for jobs in a competitive industry that is constantly changing.”
The two keystone initiatives of the partnership’s inaugural year include a scholarship fund for student participation in the international PRSSA ICON 2022 conference, and an on-campus networking event to provide individualized resume and career guidance to students.
